Here’s what I’m working on in the way of writing projects at the moment:
THE SHADOW OF THE RUIN (134k words)
An elven princess fleeing a past she can’t remember embarks on an unintended adventure, leaving behind a life that was never really hers to become something beyond her wildest dreams.
This was the first manuscript I ever completed, currently sitting cautiously complete on its third total rewrite. The first draft (2019) came in at 223k words. The ‘second ‘short version’ cut that down to 168k, and the (currently!) final draft got it all the way down to 134k.
This novel is currently out for querying.
THE GATHERING DARKNESS (145k words)
Following on from the events of The Shadow of the Ruin, the second book continues the story of Laurebella Arciryen, her brother Varymel, and a whole host of other characters you’ll have to read the books to learn about.
Writing began in earnest in May 2019, and the first draft was finished in early 2020. The manuscript is now complete.
THE SECOND SUNDERING (114k words)
The third and final book of the trilogy, taking the story to its epic conclusion.
Plotting began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and I started firming up the chapters and writing chapter scripts in October 2020 (still during the pandemic, of course!). The first draft was finished in late May of 2021 (with the pandemic not yet over), and the as-yet final draft was completed in late 2021.
Watch this space!
With my first trilogy completed and sitting in the hands of fate and the worlds’ literary agents, I am moving quickly towards a point where I can begin in earnest on my next writing project. I’m excited to start – I’ve learned a huge amount since December 2012, when I began plotting what would become The Shadow of the Ruin. Time to put it to good use!
